DailyBalance Security

Introduction

At DataViz we take your privacy seriously, so we built DailyBalance with security in mind. Below is an overview of how DailyBalance keeps your data protected.

Secure in Transit

The DailyBalance app that you use to manage your tasks and plan your days is the visible part of the larger DailyBalance solution. The DailyBalance Sync Service is the behind-the-scenes piece of the solution that allows DailyBalance to seamlessly function on all of your devices. The Sync Service continually backs up your DailyBalance data and is responsible for syncing changes to all of your devices. The Sync Service consists of code that runs in the local app as well as components that run on our servers. During backup and sync operations, the Sync Service transmits your data between your device and our servers. All communication between the device and our servers is encrypted using the industry standard technologies transport layer security (TLS) and secure socket layer (SSL).

Secure at Rest

The Sync Service stores your DailyBalance data files “in the cloud”. This means that your files are stored on servers so that the Sync Service can provide access to all of your devices. Your data files are kept encrypted for the entire time they reside on these servers.

The DailyBalance “cloud” runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is the industry leading cloud computing platform and has a very serious focus on security. You can learn more at http://aws.amazon.com/security/. We make use of AWS’s built-in encryption at rest features as an added security measure to ensure your piece of mind. This protects your data from being read even if the files were somehow accessed on the server.

Account Access

The Sync Service is also responsible for communicating with our servers when you create your DailyBalance account, sign into the app on a new device, or login from an existing device. Your account data is kept secure as described in the sections above.

We ask you to create a password to secure your account when you first create your DailyBalance account. This password is encrypted and obfuscated using industry best practices so that even DataViz employees cannot read your password. The only downside to this is that if you forget your password, you will need to reset it to continue using DailyBalance. If you do reset your password, the DailyBalance app on all the devices associated with your account will become locked until you login with your new credentials. If you suspect that your account or password has been accessed by someone else, we recommend that you reset your password immediately to secure your account.

Having a valid and active email on your DailyBalance account is important for security reasons. We will use this email to alert you whenever your DailyBalance account is logged into on a new device. We will also use this email during the password reset process and to alert you of any other security issues.
